Different Work Item for Requirements

We have a customised TFS and our "Requirements" task is actually a "Requirements Task" task. Is it possible to configure TFS Workbench to recognise the new tasks as requirements tasks without changing code and recompiling?

I know you can add fields pretty easily.  I have never tried adding a WIT.

What is so different about your Reqs task that the builtin Sprint Backlog Task (SBT) can't do?

Have you tried Settings->Edit View?  Is your WIT visible there?  Can you make its parent PBI and ImplementedBY link?

The workbench will automatically load all work item definitions. However, to see your new work item types, you will need to create views that use them. This is accomplished through the "Settings -> Add View" menu command. Use the "View Editor Panel" to create a new view that includes your custom work item types.
